What does a house cost in Santa Fe?
As with anywhere, the answer depends on the style, size, location and amenities you seek. Whether you think home prices are “reasonable” or “outrageous” will have everything to do with the prices you are used to. It is a challenging place for those on a tight budget. Santa Fe is renowned for its luxury homes and distinctive pueblo-style architecture and, being a small city, around 70,000 population, it is not easy to extrapolate meaningful statistics from a couple-thousand sales a year among the entire MLS (which includes several surrounding counties and the cities). Your best chance at understanding this market is to call us for a conversation about what you’re envisioning, and let us research and email you some listings so you can get a sense of what’s possible in your price range.
Should I bring a boat?
No. This is a high-mountain desert. There is some fishing on the Pecos River, a bit of seasonal rafting on the Rio Grande and a few small bodies of water in a hour’s drive or so; but if you’re seeking water sports, this is not the place.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, bring him or her to the coffeehouse, stop by a gallery and introduce your dog to the gallery owner and take it for play dates at the dog parks and on walks along the trails and in the arroyos. Santa Fe is dog friendly, and it’s a great way to meet new people.

What’s the climate like?
It’s often described as “mild 4 season,” which means we have summers where the days can get hot (into the high 80’s) but cools off at night, into the 60’s, so many homes do not have air conditioning and you usually need a sweater in the evenings and sleep with a blanket. Winters can bring a few snow storms but snow is usually isolated in the higher elevations, which means great skiing, and the days don’t feel as cold as in more-humid climates because the sun shines and the sky is deep blue. Spring and fall are glorious. Invest in moisturizer and drink plenty of water -- this is high mountain desert, around 7,000-feet elevation. If you don’t mind the lack of humidity, it is about the most-perfect 4-season climate I’ve found...and I’ve lived in many places around the world.
